Site Preparation Contractor Services

Libs Paving’s site preparation crews deliver the grade-ready foundation every commercial paving project starts from.

Set the Right Foundation Before a Single Load of Asphalt Arrives

As Kentuckiana’s site preparation contractor for commercial builds, Libs Paving knows every failed paving project traces back to something that went wrong before the asphalt arrived. Improper grade, unstable base, unaddressed drainage, or inadequate sub-base all cause pavement to fail early regardless of how well it was laid. Libs Paving handles the full foundation scope: clearing, demolition, excavation, grading, drainage correction, and stone sub-base installation.

Grade Drives Everything

Poor grade is the hidden cause behind most early pavement failures. As your land grading contractor, we get the grade and drainage right during site prep and you get pavement that doesn’t collect water, soften the base, or fail early.

Commercial Land Clearing

Before grading or sub-base work can begin, the site has to be cleared to a clean, workable starting point first. We deliver a cleared commercial site ready for precise grading so nothing from the previous site condition carries into your finished foundation.

Explore Our Site Preparation Process

Each of our site preparation projects follows a planned sequence that builds a stable, grade-correct foundation before paving begins.

Step 1: Pre-Construction Planning

Before equipment arrives, our project managers review site conditions, sequencing, equipment needs, and potential challenges with the field team. Making sure everyone understands the plan before work begins minimizes delays, coordinates resources, and keeps the project moving efficiently.

Step 2: Clearing and Demolition

We remove brush, vegetation, and surface debris, then demolish and remove existing asphalt or concrete. The result is a clear surface free of buried hazards, drainage conflicts, and grade inconsistencies that would compromise the grading and sub-base work above.

Step 3: Excavation and Grading

With the surface cleared, our team excavates to the required depth and grades the entire site to the correct elevation and drainage slope. Addressing grade and drainage at this stage prevents water from pooling under finished pavement and causing base failure down the road.

Step 4: Sub-Base Installation

Stone and sub-base materials are installed and compacted to the project plan specifications. When we complete site preparation, the result is a stable, properly compacted foundation ready for asphalt, with base conditions that will determine how long your pavement actually holds.

Skip the Handoff Risk Between Contractors

Most site prep projects lead directly to paving. As an earthwork contractor with in-house asphalt production and dedicated paving crews, we manage both, eliminating the handoff risk between separate contractors that often causes delays and grade disputes on commercial sites.

Site Preparation FAQs

Our project managers assess potential challenges during pre-construction planning and build contingency discussion into the scope. Unexpected conditions like unstable soil or buried debris are addressed as part of the project without derailing the schedule.

Yes, we work on both greenfield sites starting from raw ground and brownfield sites with existing pavement, concrete, or structures. The clearing and demolition scope is determined by the site conditions and project plans.

Site preparation is the full foundation scope before paving, including excavation. Excavation and drainage as a standalone service covers specific drainage installations or base corrections on existing sites.

We proudly serve commercial site preparation projects around a 50-mile radius of our Southern Indiana plant, including Greater Louisville, New Albany, Jeffersonville, Clarksville, Sellersburg, and the surrounding Kentuckiana region.
